'Living the dream' is the classic saying that gets mentioned on a daily basis working fifo and having worked in the mining industry for 20 + years I have had my fair share of foreign objects impacting my eyes, whether its dust, grit or liquid I have been caught out because I have not worn the safety glasses that have been provided.
Why?
The answer is simple.
Most ppe and safety eyewear is designed to protect you from harms way and serve its purpose, not be there for comfort and to look good.
The turn over for the generic pair of safety glasses is outrageous and costly.
For most sites I have worked on, safety glasses may only see a few uses before being turfed in the bin.
Why can't there be a better solution? Something that would promote wearing eye protection?
